ALERT: Brooklyn Public Library Talk Tonight Deferred One Week, to June 20th!

Torrential downpours are incompatible with language-learning presentations.

Dear New York-Based Readers,

My talk scheduled for tonight at the Brooklyn Public Library has been deferred exactly one week. The weather here in New York is being uncooperative and threatening to wash us all away.

All details of the talk remain the same—it has merely been moved to June 20th. I’m very sorry for any inconvenience!

Sincerely,

Ellen

Dang!  Was looking forward to the talk but the rain is quite bad!  I wanted especially to find out if you have had luck yet finding anywhere in NYC where Irish is spoken.  There are Irish language classes at the Irish House, where you can also learn things like how to play the tin whistle and the bodrean (sp?) and traditional Irish dancing, but what about a community, or at least a table, where you can hear it?  I have had a fantasy of going to a Gaeltacht for 6 months (going to check out the documentary mentioned previously with Des Bishop (looks fantastic) but I would have to find a patron or patroness to get me out of my day job and humdrum, completely monolingual life ...
