Event Alert: Calling All New York City Language Lovers!

To my New York City metropolitan area readers, this is a language-news bulletin for you.

Brooklyn Bridge: Head on Over!

On October 20th, you are invited to attend Foreign Language Hopscotch, a cool event in Cobble Hill, Brooklyn, and part of a 10-day Franco-American cultural festival called Walls and Bridges.

“How often do we take advantage of all the incredible lingual diversity at our ear-tips?” ask the organizers. “Join us for an active-language listening party, as we hear and explore languages from across the five boroughs and around the world.”

Come to Foreign Language Hopscotch and you can take up to six 30-minute speed language courses on languages from around the world, taught by New Yorkers who speak them! The schedule is forthcoming, but I have seen references to Lithuanian, Malinka/Bambara, Wolof/Fulani, Japanese, Danish, Cantonese, French, Bulgarian, Romanian, Hebrew, Igbo, Icelandic, Arabic, and more.

These are some fancy languages, people! I am eyeing Wolof and Romanian for sure. Maybe Icelandic. Danish, perhaps. Cantonese.
