New Spam Software

Yep, this is going to be an exciting entry for sure.

Dearest Non-Robot Readers,

I have been getting hundreds and hundreds of spam comments a month on this site. Sometimes, on a bad night, I will get 100 or more just between the time I go to sleep and the time I wake up in the morning. The filtering software I was using clearly wasn’t working, so it has now been updated to something that I hope will be more effective.

My web designer has told me this spam issue is a huge problem for postable sites, and that the spammers are at present winning. In case you are curious, Uggs, sports jerseys, and sexual performance aids are especially popular topics for spammers to this site. One thing I appreciate is that the spam comes in many different languages. That is thoughtful of them.

The new spam filter has been set on the gentlest possible settings, so I believe all legitimate comments from you will get through, but this is an unknown technological entity for me. The point is, I really don’t want to miss any of your messages. If you notice that a message of yours is not getting posted within a reasonable number of hours, I will be extremely grateful if you alert me to that omission so I can address the problem.

I have learned a lot from reader comments, and it is my hope to continue to do so—without being bombarded by Cialis offers!

Thank you,

Ellen

I had a similar problem on my Wordpress site. I found that the anti-spam software Asktimet (not sure of the spelling) is very good. I also disabled comments for posts over 30 days old. Good luck.
