Pimsleur to the Rescue

Pimsleur is coming in handy, at least in my sleep.

Last night, for example, I dreamed that I was with a pretty big group of people, I don’t really know who, around a big square hotel bar on some kind of resort vacation.

The setting was a little weird, since I am not keen on traveling in packs, and I am not much for resort vacations. No matter—that is not the point.

The point is, someone at the bar really urgently needed to know how to order two beers in Japanese. I overheard him and came to the rescue with the translation, which I have had repeatedly drilled into my head by my Pimsleur lessons.

Since this is my own transliteration, it may be faulty, but I think it will work if you want two beers in Japan: Biru-o ni hon onegEIshimas.

We weren’t in Japan, so I don’t know why the translation need was so urgent, but such is the enigmatic nature of dreams. In any case, people were impressed, and I was proud.
