I think this was the first time in my entire grammatical life I had ever been told to do certain grammar exercises in oral style. In one exercise, for instance, I had to translate a magazine-story excerpt into “spoken language style.” In another, I had to translate an oral account into a more formal written version.

Overall, the exercises in Modern Brazilian Portuguese Grammar Workbook were not the most fun I have ever had, but I did learn something.
