This 2007 book weaves together poignant and sometimes surprising immigrant tales from neighborhoods all over New York City. What happens globally changes the shape of the city, by bringing new waves of people from around the world to reinvent New York and all its parts.
Today the book is six years old, so some of the stories are becoming a little dated. It was written before Ikea went to Red Hook and when the Brooklyn Nets were still New Jersey’s. As I read through the tales of individuals and neighborhoods, I often found myself wondering, what has happened there since 2007?
It is still current enough and well worth a read, though!
