The Assembly for the Teaching of English Grammar

I happen to love this organization, which consists of highly passionate teachers of grammar, but my feeling is that it tends to be most effective, in its commitment to grammar pedagogy, at preaching to the choir.
I have been to a couple of their annual conferences, which—to be blunt—were nerd festivals at which I was an eager participant.
ATEG, as it is known, is so democratic that the quality of the papers presented and articles published, at least the last time I crossed paths directly with them, was distressingly uneven. There is a reason in this world for judgment.
But who can dislike someone who willingly and proudly calls himself an “ATEGer”?
