The Oxford New Portuguese Dictionary

The Oxford New Portuguese Dictionary is a member of a dictionary series from Oxford that I really like and have used for other languages. The series as a whole is well-designed and lightweight (meaning easily portable through New York City’s streets and subways!).

However, I must confess I barely touched the Oxford New Portuguese Dictionary. I guess I didn’t find a need for it during my Portuguese unit, perhaps because so many words in Portuguese were already recognizable from the other Romance languages I had studied, or because the vocabulary I needed was already in my grammar books.

While I am not comfortable rating it—you have to really use a dictionary intimately before you know its strengths and its failings—I will say I get a good vibe from it.
