Woordenboek der Nederlandsche Taal (Dictionary of the Dutch Language)

Skill Level  Intermediate, Advanced

Published by the Institute for Dutch Lexicology, the Woordenboek der Nederlandsche Taal (Dictionary of the Dutch Language) is supposedly the largest dictionary in the world, many decades in the making. It covers more than 500 years’ worth of Dutch word history and includes well over 400,000 entries.

The dictionary is available online for free; the print version is rather huge. When I am a mere month or two into a new language, I do not find that I need hundreds of thousands of dictionary entries to help me in my studies, so it is probably more useful for intermediate and advanced students, and of course native speakers, than it is for lowly beginners.

But it is still a very cool thing to know about, no matter what your level!
