RTÉ stands for Raidió Teilifís Éireann, which I believe literally means “Radio Television of Ireland.” (Is there an implied “and” between “Radio” and “Television”? I don’t know yet; I am writing this on just the fourth day of my Irish studies.)

Anyway, RTÉ is the national public service broadcaster of Ireland. Besides Irish content on the RTÉ website (whose extent I cannot yet clarify for you), you can also find there six free Irish lessons. Each lesson contains three dialogues with text, audio files, and translations into English, as well as exercises complete with answer key.

Getting to hear Irish is critical for students of the language. Letters and sounds match up in ways that can be very surprising to the native English speaker!
