Elmhurst abuts Jackson Heights, possibly the most diverse neighborhood in the world, and you can see and hear many languages around here.
For a 2010 field trip, I visited specifically because I had heard there was a significant Colombian community. And there was!
To get there by public transportation, one good option is to take the 7 train to the 82nd Street stop. The strip between Roosevelt Avenue, which is the northern boundary of Elmhurst, and Baxter Avenue to the south is full of stores catering to Colombian and other locals.
